Britain’s King Charles has been diagnosed with cancer.

This is stated by the British royal house.

The British royal house does not say what type of cancer it is, but it has been discovered in connection with the treatment of an enlarged prostate. However, it is not prostate cancer.

According to Buckingham Palace – the British royal house – 75-year-old King Charles has today begun “regular treatment” for cancer.

The royal house adds that King Charles “is completely positive about his treatment and that he looks forward to returning to full public service as soon as possible”, writes the BBC.

The British monarch will not participate in public events for a period of time, but will continue to act as head of state and carry out paperwork and hold private meetings.

Instead, the so-called ‘Counsellors of State’ – which consists of the regent’s spouse and the four next heirs to the throne over the age of 21 – will take the place of King Charles. Currently it is Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Anne and Prince Edward.

Charles had chosen to speak publicly about his prostate treatment with the aim of encouraging more men to get prostate checks. This was announced by the British royal house in connection with the examination, which he had last week at a private hospital in London.

The 75-year-old king last appeared in public yesterday, when he attended a church service in Sandringham, England.

After the British royal house issued the announcement about the cancer diagnosis, several British politicians sent greetings to the king. Among others the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, who wishes Charles a “speedy recovery”.

– I have no doubt that he will be back at full strength in no time, and I know that the whole country wishes him a speedy recovery, writes Sunak on media X.
