Denmark Confirms First Death Of Coronavirus Patient

An elderly patient has died in Copenhagen after contracting the coronavirus, officials confirmed on Saturday.

The 81 year old was admitted to Herlev Hospital in Copenhagen for several serious illnesses and later tested positive for the coronavirus, or COVID-19 as it is also known.The patient died on Saturday.

In a press release, the region did not state whether the death could be directly linked to the coronavirus due to the other health problems the patient had.

On Thursday night, an 80 year old from North Jutland was found to be infected with the coronavirus after dying from a heart attack. Authorities have not officially recorded it as a coronavirus death.

There are currently 827 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Denmark. The actual number of infected people in Denmark is estimated to be higher but the Danish authorities are now only testing the most serious cases. Those with mild symptoms are asked to stay at home and not infect others.

According to the National Board of Health, up to 580,000 Danes risk being infected with the coronavirus and between 1680 and 5600 Danes risk losing their lives.

The number of deaths are expected to be at the lower end of the scale.
