A 24-year-old emergency worker has returned to Italy, about a year and a half after she was kidnapped by armed perpetrators in Kenya.
It happens after she was released on Saturday.
The woman named Silvia Romano landed on Sunday afternoon with a special plane at Ciampino Airport in the Italian capital, Rome.
“I was strong and I fought,” 24-year-old Romano told Italian newspapers immediately after his release.
It is not immediately known who was behind the kidnapping in eastern Africa in November 2018. No group has claimed to be behind it.
Face mask and covered hair
Silvia Romano was accompanied by masked men from the Italian intelligence authorities when she landed in Rome on Sunday. She was also wearing a face mask to protect herself against coronavirus.
Incidentally, the woman had covered her hair as she was allegedly converted to Islam. It says intelligence sources according to Italian news agency Ansa.
